The Function of the Alternator

In your car, you have a battery. When you start your car, the battery supplies the power to engage the starter motor so that your vehicle will turn over. This depletes energy from the battery, and it needs to be resupplied. That's where the alternator comes in. One of the functions of the alternator is to keep the battery charged up. The alternator also works in conjunction with the battery to keep the electrical system in the vehicle operating.
